I'm giving away one ARC for Tempest Rising before the new year and this is your one and only chance to get it-- and I'll also throw some other goodies in to sweeten the pot (some cool swag, some Bath and Body Works shower gel, whatever other cool things I run across between now and the end of the contest). In return, I'm trying to put together a cool playlist for Tempest and would love some recommendations for songs. So, sometime between now and December 7th, think of a cool song or two (or three) that you think should go on Tempest's playlist. The final version will go up on my website and be given away as a prize for another contest.
I've listed the blurb below to help you figure out the mood and look forward to your suggestions. All you have to do to be entered is to post a song in the comment section that you think will work for the playlist. Thanks a bunch :)
Tempest Maguire wants nothing more than to surf the killer waves near her California home; continue her steady relationship with her boyfriend, Mark; and take care of her brothers and surfer dad. But Tempest is half mermaid, and as her seventeenth birthday approaches, she will have to decide whether to remain on land or give herself to the ocean like her mother. The pull of the water becomes as insistent as her attraction to Kai, a gorgeous surfer whose uncanny abilities hint at an otherworldly identity as well. And when Tempest does finally give in to the water's temptation and enters a fantastical underwater world, she finds that a larger destiny awaits her—and that the entire ocean's future hangs in the balance.
Oh, great giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteOk I'm still thinking but being a So Cal girl a couple of songs that take me to the beach/ocean when I hear them....
California by Phantom Planet (the OC theme song) and
Island In The Sun by Weezer!
I'll probably come back with more in a bit, not sure if either of these will actually work for what you are looking for! :)
Um, Hawaiian slack key guitar music?
ReplyDelete"Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" by Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole
That is the most well-known of his songs, I think, since it was used in a commercial.
what about Bryan Adams I Do It For You - I know it's a little bit sad, but sometimes it fits the current mood...
ReplyDeleteoh and I love Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Sheree, that's a great tip!
Cary Brothers - "Ride"
ReplyDelete"Beautiful World (We're All Here)" by Jim Brickman and Adam Crossley.
ReplyDeleteWords include:
You fell asleep under the starlit sea.
It's time to wake up.
The moon is high above you.
We're all here because we love you.
And when you finally open your eyes and ears,
You'll see and you'll hear us sing.
La la la la la la, it's a beautiful world and we're all here....
Hi :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity to win an ARC of TEMPEST RISING.
I suggest Enya's Orinico Flow.
All the best,
RKCharron
PS - Text on blurb was hard to read, & I had to highlight it to read.
I'd recommend some surf guitar music as well, but I don't know whether teen SoCal girls listen to that sort of thing anymore.
ReplyDeleteCrash and Burn by Savage Garden

Thanks for your input so far, guys. I love the suggestions :) Keep them coming!!!
ReplyDeleteI liked how Laney4 posted lyrics - so even though you'd have to listen to the song to really get it...
ReplyDeleteCary Brothers, Ride
You are everything I wanted
The scars of all I'll ever know
If I told you you were right
Would you take my hand tonight?
If I told you the reasons why
Would you leave your life and ride?
And ride
You saw all my pieces broken
This darkness that I could never show
If I told you you were right
Would you take my hand tonight?
If I told you the reasons why
Would you leave your life and ride?
And ride
Also liked Sheree's idea for CA surf stuff - anything Jack Johnson
Beverly Hills - Weezer
ReplyDeleteIt must be the CA/surfing thing that made me think of it.
How about Surfing Safari by the Beach Boys.
ReplyDeleteFor surf guitar, I'd go with Duane Eddy although my favorite is his collaboration with the Art of Noise for "Peter Gunn". It even has an engine revving in the song. The original "Peter Gunn" is good, too, but a lot more sax.
ReplyDeleteA song that's seasonal and surf guitar is "Sleigh Ride" by Los Straitjackets.
Thanks so much everyone! I love some of the songs on this lis-- thanks for reminding me :) Keep your answers coming. A week and a half left until the contest ends!
ReplyDeleteHow about Malibu by Hole?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that a young girl would like to listen to another young girl about her age and Taylor Swift popped into my head some of her songs like
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Eyes,
A Perfectly Good Heart
Love Story.
Then who doesn't love some of the songs esp. the ones sung in Hawaaian on the Lilo and Stictch soundtrack and lets not forget those Elvis' tunes Stich loves.
Zina
I was thinking maybe some beautiful haunting music like The Sky and The Dawn and the Sun by Celtic Woman. It's a beautiful song.
