This Week's Giveaway

Sorry, I took last week off from a contest, but Mr. Deebs was super sick and he kept me hopping (and then some)!  Plus, I've come down with a cold myself and I've got revisions for my next YA book, the International Kissing Club, due tomorrow (I'll post a fun little excerpt later this week).  So I've been busy ...

Anyway, because I did take time out this weekend  to go to a fabulous booksigning at Austin's independent bookstore, BookPeople (and let's here it for independent bookstores), I have a kick-ass prize for this week's giveaway.  An autographed copy of Cynthia Leitich Smith's brand new vampire book, Blessed.  So leave an answer to this week's question and be entered to win!

Question of the Week: The first ever Into the Tempest poll is closing tomorrow, and it looks like mermaids are the clear winner (yay, for Tempest and for me).  If you voted, and even if you didn't, tell me what your favorite supernatural creature is and why.  My favorites are mermaids and shifters (big surprise as I have both in Tempest Rising and I also write a dragon shifter romance series) because I love their ability to flourish in two worlds, to be two totally  different things :) So how about you???

A Quick Peek at Tempest Rising

Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd start the day by giving you another glimpse of Tempest Rising.

I pulled out the mirror and held it up to my left ear, tried to look at the odd bumps there without letting Mark or Brianne see.  But as I got my first glimpse of the strange little slash in the mirror, my heart literally skipped a beat.  Then two.

Trying (and failing) not to freak out, I frantically switched the mirror to my right side, only to see the same thing there.  A short (no more than three-quarters of an inch) shallow cut ran directly beneath each of my ears.  The cuts gaped a little on each side, despite the fact that they looked fully healed—there was none of the redness and dried blood that you would expect from a new injury.

My hands started to shake—so noticeably that I made myself dump my compact back in my purse.  Mark and Bri were staring at me like I’d lost my mind, but I didn’t know what to say to them, didn’t even know if I could look at them.  

I hadn’t cut myself in the ocean, hadn’t hurt myself and been unaware.  No, nothing that simple would do for me.  Instead, it was a million times worse.  A billion times worse.

No, make that a trillion times worse.

Because one look at the slightly raised, slightly open slices and I knew exactly what they were.  After all, I’d seen them before—every day of the first eleven years of my life—on my mother.  

The short yet rocky journey between my life and

complete and utter insanity had just been fast-tracked.  Sometime between checking myself over in the mirror before leaving the house and right now, I had grown gills.

I just got this in my inbox from my editor-- it's the U.K. cover for Tempest Rising.  What do you think? My name is spelled wrong, but we're getting that corrected.  Otherwise, I think it's pretty cool.  How about you?

And in other news, the Turkish rights to Tempest were just sold.  It'll show up in Turkey about a year after it hits the shelves here and in the U.K.  I'm excited-- I've never had a Turkish edition of one of my books before :)

This Week's Contest
